Re: Help me identify this Charvel by serial number Tue, Jul 15, 2014 10:18am 150 is a decent buy for any Charvel in nice shape, since they are all american or japanese apart from the most recent stratheads which are mexican. I also checked the Jackson/Charvel forum, and saw this: 'Prior to 2010, the Charvel Pro-Mods (Production Model) were made in the US. Only recently was the Pro-Mod production moved to Japan.' Seems a little disingenious to me, but whatever.

I've spot this one on the polish trading portal:The seller claims it's Charvel 2015 So-Cal.
What troubles me is that it has Jackson-like hambucker and 2 no name single coils. Which is strange for this model (never seen such a guitar in Charvel catalogues).
The headstock photo is also pasted from the internets (the front-headstock). There's a photo of the serial number, could you guys help me justify if this guitar is fake or not?. Hey, is correct. This is fake Charvel. The 2016 / 2017 Pro Mods have coil splits, thus their 'six pack of sound' advertising. They are, IMHO, the best mass produced guitars on the market today at pricepoint. You can tell the difference between the 2016/2017 from the earlier ones by counting the knobs, if there are two, it's a 2016 or 2017. The new ones also have recessed Floyd Rose, which is thought by some to be sacrilege for a San Dimas, but truthfully, these are great progressions for the brand. The new pro mods have real Duncans - normally a JB/59 or a Custom/59.The only thing some people don't like about the new San Dimas Pro Mods is the raw neck - don't let that bother you.
You're literally $5 worth of gunstock oil from having a great feeling neck like an Ernie Ball Music Man.I would avoid this guitar as suggests, it's a fake. Okay, fair enough. In the pictures you posted, the tone knob was not visible. Now the problem I have is that the 2015's didn't have two knobs. You've explained the wrong pickguard.
Odd that the original owner would pull out the American Duncans and put in shitty jackson pickups when this guitar would have come with switching.I'm going to change my mind. I'm no longer going to say the guitar you originally posted is a fake. I'm upping the ante to It's fake, and you're being played as a sucker, and this is not the same guitar in your original pics. Essentially double fake. But hey, that's just me.
If you trust your instinct and those horribly shitty pics that are shady as fuck, then go for it. Now I've got complete info about the guitar.Turned out it IS an (or was) original Charvel 2015 So-Cal HH White guitar. The seller sent me a receipt, I've contacted shop which gave the receipt, they confirmed selling this guitar. The guitar has been modified by changing the electronics to HSS set with 1 volume knob (humbucker is JH-2, the rest are some mysterious stuff). I've decided avoiding it, because those pickups are rather cheap. The seller probably took the stock Seymour Duncans out and wants to sell it for price that's close to the used original. Thanks for your help guys!.
Once the four digitserial number series was launched in late 1981, we began to see morestandardization in components and features. The cream of this crop areCharvels that have original hardware, finish, neck, body, factory bridge, pickup(s), strap buttons, cavity plates, and serialized neckplate. Anall original guitar should have no added controls, switches, or modifications.Ideally the specifications of the guitar should match the factory logbook. The factory kept a detailed logbook of every guitar that left the factory. This log is still maintained today.
However, in the early days thingswere apparently not that organized. The serial numbers were not necessarilyreleased in perfect order as guitars were built. The book has many serialnumbers with black entries and has been known to be inconsistent. Incollector circles, allegiance to this book varies widely. It is bestto use information on this website, collectors and players, and originalCharvel employees (when you can get a hold of them) to verify guitars. How to identifythese guitars:- The first three things to look for: a) neckplate b) neck with correctlogo and c) body- The four screwneckplate will be Gold plated over black and have a 4 digit serial numberwith the San Dimas factory address. It will have in raised characters:Charvel (the logo)P.O. Box 245San Dimas, CA91773- The serial numberwill either be or fall between 1001 and 5491.- As has been noted over the years, any serial number 5492 and abovewould not be an authentic Charvel as an unknown number of plates escapedthe factory after manufacturing of USA Charvels ceased.
The majorityof these plates were unstamped with no number and could easily be forged.- If you find a 5 digit San Dimas serial plate, it could part of theseries mentioned above.- Many of the early plates were made of very weak alloy. It is commonto find severely warped neckplates with the neck screws causing damage. This was the case into the early 2000 serial range.NOTE: In this case I recommend installing a generic plate and safeguarding the original!
Charvels use standard Fender neck bolt spacing and almost any kind of plate will work.-Later production neckplates were seated on a.- Neck- The neck should have a correct logo: Strat headstock natural neckshave 'medium sized' 2' black logos with MADE IN USA printed on the bottom.Jackson headstock necks have larger 2.5' logos, gold mostly.- Charvel guitars came with 21 fret necks originally and than 22 inlater years. A 24 fret 'Charvel' has yet to surface but anything ispossible.- The first original Charvel guitars came with either strat or teleheadstock designs. I have seen a flying V with a Gibson-style headstockas well as Explorer type headstocks but these are extremely rare!- What I call 'Jackson headstock' necks began production sometime inlate 1982-early 1983 (after the RR guitar was designed, the Jacksonheadstock was incorporated into the Charvel line).
